After a childhood of sitting in front of a Philco radio, you just have to try being a disc jockey, newsman or sports color commentary person. I tried all three. Check here for the results
Becoming a part of the movie industry was not on my list of careers. I was approaching graduation at the University of Minnesota intending to go in to advertising or marketing. I took a film-making class because I had just purchased a super-8 camera. A fellow student thought I was a film buff and told me about an assistant directors training program in Hollywood. I sent for info. They sent an application and yada-yada...I became and assistant director. For a list of some of my film credits visit...
I had written two screenplays and half a novel. I had composed chamber and orchestral music, why not give a Broadway-style musical a try. Well, I was never terrific at writing lyrics., but I had an idea....
There's a bit of an artist in everyone. It starts with a doodle, a sketch, an attempt to capture the beauty of that girl sitting across from you in English class. For me a pencil was not enough and oils were too much. Watercolor was the answer.
One of my film projects in college was a ten-minute, simplistic love story about two college students. I had my super-8 camera but no equipment to record dialogue so I needed music to tell the story......
For more than a decades I and two fellow music devotees have been producing half-hour shows at a local public access station featuring Minnesota finest musicans. We do this as volunteers. They perform at no cost and we provide quality video and sound recording at no cost to them, So everybody wins. The musicians recieve free exposure on our website, babybluearts.com and we get to hear a free performance. Over that ten years plus we have recorded more than 170 different artists and groups from classical to jazz, country to Latin. In September of 2015 we switched from standard definition to high definition video. We also had to rebuild our website...out with flash in in with html5. That to accomodate Smartphone users.
The transition is taking time (we are volunteers.) All current HD shows are posted and older SD shows are being added on a regular basis over the months. Our work is done for the love of music. Baby Blue Arts is free to all. There is no advertising. We don't want or accept donations. We just want you to enjoy the music. Click below.
While working on "Phyllis" at MTM I decided to test my abilities as a sitcom writer. I wrote a spec script and one of the producer/writers was kind enough to read it. He had several good things to say about my writing, but didn't buy the script. Undaunted I wrote a few more spec scripts for shows such as "Growing Pains" and "The Cosby Show." They were good enough to get me an agent, but no paying offers.
So I gave writing a feature a shot. I started with a revised and expanded version of the half-hour radio show I wrote, "Feet Don't Fail Me Now."
